EU requires Africa to Pay Funds for Immigration Screening Center

The head of the European Union’s foreign policy, Federica Mogherini, urged EU members to invest more funds in African trust funds because the group hopes to establish an immigration screening center outside Europe.

Mogherini said that the fund “has proven to be useful, it has brought results and this is why we are asking for more money from member states.”

Later this week, EU leaders will set up a green light program to screen emigrants at eligibility seekers in centers in Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Morocco, Niger and Tunisia.

The plan reflects the agreement reached between the EU and Turkey in 2015 to encourage Ankara to prevent refugees from traveling to the Greek Islands. The deal cost more than 3 billion euros.
