World Theatre Day – Value of the Arts

Happy World Theatre Day 2019!

World Theater Day is observed internationally on March 27 to generate awareness about the importance of theatre arts, how they played an important role in the field of entertainment and the changes that theatre brings in the life.

As the International Theatre Institute explains, this day is a celebration for those who can see the value and importance of the art form “theatre”, and acts as a wake-up call for governments, politicians and institutions which have not yet recognised its value.

World Theatre Day celebrates the importance of theatre arts as it continues to move, entertain, teach and change us. It encourages colleges, schools and theatre personalities to mark this day.

Each year the Council of International Theatre Institute chooses an outstanding theatre personality to write the message and share his or her reflections on theatre and international harmony.

This year the theme is Theatre and Culture of peace, and the speaker is Carlos Celdran from Cuba. He speaks about the unique moments theatre has given him and the meaning of the theatrical profession “to live instants of pure ephemeral truth, where we know that what we say and do, there under the stage lights, is true and reflects the most profound, most personal, part of ourselves”. You can read the entire piece, here.
