Cold Pursuit – Movie review
This week I went to see another movie. And the truth is, I went for the popcorn.
I am not going to lie. Liam Neeson movies are not my cup of tea. I do believe he is a very talented actor but the whole revenge bloody action movies are not for me.
However, I was happily surprised to see a twist in the plot of Cold Pursuit. The audience gets immersed in a dark comedy of an unconventional revenge flick.
As you are reading this, I need to warn you! You may not like it. It is intense and has great action scenes, but the movie may offend you. I’d say you’ll at least laugh.
Cold Pursuit is an American black comedy action film directed by Hans Petter Moland, starring Liam Neeson, Laura Dern, Emmy Rossum and Tom Bateman. The film is a remake of the Norwegian film ‘In Order of Disappearance’, also directed by Moland.
A short synopsis:
Nels Coxman (Liam Neeson), a snowplow driver at the ski resort of Kehoe, is awarded Citizen of the year, but just after this achievement, he learns that his son has been killed. The protagonist begins to attack the drug traffickers he believes are responsible, but things get more complicated when his actions provoke a war between two rival gangs.
For me, the best part was the scenery. It showcased jaw-dropping views of the Colorado Springs in the winter and made me want to get the snow back to Dublin.
Criticism
Some of the fans actually criticised the movie and gave low ratings and bad reviews, as they did not like the mix of humour and crime. However, for some of us, that was the satisfying part.
For some others, it is Neeson’s best action film since The Grey in 2011, but after he made some racially charged comments during an interview with the Independent (UK), that is what everybody is talking about.
However, I have a personal complaint about Cold Pursuit, the female characters are not important. Laura Dern character is insignificant, her purpose is to be the loving wife turned into an afflicted mother, that’s all. Kehoe’s police officer Emmy Rossum seems to be a good investigator, but she never feels like a threat to Nels or his search. So one could see the mismanagement of the female characters.

#ColdPursuit *** Has the macabre sense of humor and criminal element of Fargo, and a dash of Snatch for good measure. I suppose that makes sense, since this is precisely the kind of movie that’s bound for basic cable at 9:00 on a Thursday night.

It is still in the Irish cinemas but probably not for long, so go and watch it, and let us know if you recommend it or not.
