European CO2 Shortage Has Stopped UK Pubs From Serving Drinks

Europe is facing a huge shortage of beer. And this is not just the shortage caused by extremely thirsty fans for the World Cup, but the shortage of C02.

Some Wetherspoon pubs in the UK temporarily did not have draught John Smith’s and Strongbow cider due to the CO2 shortage.

There is a plan put in place by food and beverage companies to minimize disruption to consumers.

A Wetherspoon spokesperson said that some bars will not have John Smith and Strongbow cider for the time being, but supplier Heineken stated that these two will be provided again within a few days.

“Wetherspoon has the advantage that it sources its wide range of drinks from a number of suppliers, so has not been too badly affected”, he said.

He added: “Heineken has been the company with the biggest issues and they have told us that all is getting back to normal.”

“We’d like to reassure beer drinkers that all our breweries are operating at full capacity, and we’re working 24/7 to get beers to our customers as quickly as possible”, said by a Heineken spokeswoman.

A Booker spokeswoman said: “Due to the international shortage of CO2, we are experiencing some supply issues on soft drinks and beer. We are currently working hard with our suppliers to minimise the impact for our customers.”

Tesco said that the shortage of carbon dioxide has not caused any problem with the availability of any product lines.

Europe still has problems with the carbon dioxide supply. Retailers and suppliers are trying to ensure availability by purchasing alternatives.
