A Confession Of Our Feelings To 2021 Through Irish Music

Going through 2020 was a rough patch for humanity. We made it through bushfires, elections, stock market crashes, protests, explosions, and several lockdowns (which some of us still go through sadly). While we try to recover from this bizarre year, getting our hopes up for 2021 is a way for us to continue our lives. Whether you see life merely as a glitch in the matrix or a perplexing god creation, it is definitely a surreal journey.

The start of 2021 might come with news that indicates another wild year. Nevertheless, there are some things we can hold onto to express our emotions, such as music. Here is a letter to 2021 with our rollercoaster of emotions; each song from Irish music represents the emotions of humanity. May what we feel never fade and enrich our lives.

Hope

In tough times, we all need a bit of hope; that’s what people always say. Yet, finding hope is easier said than done. Personally, I found many feelings in Irish music, and hope is one of them. Soda Blonde, the Dublin alt-pop band, manages to convey hope in this beautiful song called June that was made in quarantine. Their songs are a brand new aspect of the pop genre, which is emotionally stimulative and vastly satisfying.

Anger

“And you can dream

So dream out loud

You know that your time is coming ’round

So don’t let the bastards grind you down”

Anger is a normal reaction of our body to the posed threats. It gives us adrenaline, tightens our muscles. Likewise, it increases our heart rate and blood pressure. The critical point is, if we can’t cope with it in a healthy way, it becomes a problem. Turning our anger into meaningful and constructive actions is something we all fail to do so at some point. I believe that this year we can change it and use it to our advantage.

Happiness

“I feel my story is still untold

But I’ll make my own happy ending

But I’d rather be alone

Than making do and mending”

Keeping a gratitude journal has many benefits, and the most important part is it reduces stress. While journaling or going for a little walk, this tune can help you feel better. Happiness is an inexplicable concept. Where you find is random and why you feel it is I think transcends science. However, we do make our own happiness or lose it.

Sadness

Feeling sadness can be seen as a major stepping stone to overcoming it. Listening to Mrs. Daly’s voice is a great way to do that. You can hear the feelings in her voice as the beautiful piano keeps up. The Royal Opera House definitely had her perform for a reason. Listening to sad songs actually help you (instead of deter you) because they trigger hormones that cope with sadness and melancholy.

Comfort

Comfort can come in different and unexpected ways. You can find it in smells, nature, books, and music. Low-paced songs can decrease your heart beat and help you relax. This song features a nostalgic ballad sound, along with heartfelt guitars and sincere lyrics.

Frustration

Nealo is a rapper & singer from Dublin, Ireland. He writes from the heart over soulful jazz instrumentals made by his friends. Rap music is one of the best genres that deal with frustration, anger, and disappointment. Nealo brings Irish music a different tune while connecting with the emotions that we all feel – for instance, frustration.

The variety of our feelings denotes that life is not a smooth road. Nonetheless, riding a rollercoaster is much more exciting than going on a plain drive.
