Here’s what to know before you fly home for Christmas

Keep these Christmas tips in mind to avoid trouble at Dublin airport.

People who have decided to fly home for Christmas should be aware of the following things before they turn up by a gate at the airport with their presents.

Dublin Airport Authority has recommended passengers to avoid gift wrapping Christmas presents if they carry them in their hand luggage.

“Many passengers take a lot of time to carefully wrap Christmas gifts for family and friends overseas,” Dublin Airport spokesperson Siobhán O’Donnell said. “We would ask them not to wrap these gifts, so they are not disappointed if they are requested to open them at the passenger security screening area.”

Instead, the airport suggests people should place these gifts in an open gift bag. Additionally, passengers should keep in mind that strict regulations on liquids in hand luggage are in place at all times, including Christmas.

“Many people carry a snow globe in their hand luggage and unfortunately because of their liquid content they are not permitted through security screening,” Ms O’Donnell.

She added passengers who carry Christmas presents in bottles and other containers should not be more than 100ml in their checked-in luggage. More information on what items are prohibited can be found here.
