Today is Shrove Tuesday, also known as Pancake Tuesday, and we thought you may like to know how to make pancakes or where to buy them.

Believe it or not, the celebration has a religious origin usually, it is celebrated the last Tuesday before the beginning of the Lent, that begins with the famous Ash Wednesday.

Believers usually did fasting during the holidays so knowing what awaited them, with the intention of preserving calories, fed a day before with delicious pancakes, stuffed with jam, condensed milk, honey and other delicacies. Making the most of the benefits of ingredients such as eggs and butter.

Below is one of the perfect pancake recipes, with colourful themes. A delight! The whole family will love its taste and presentation

Recipe for making colourful pancakes:

  1. Beat an egg, add 3 tablespoons of sugar and 3 tablespoons butter, beat, add 1/2 cup of milk and 1/2 cup of yoghurt, whisk, add 1 cup of wheat flour, stir, place 1 tbsp of powder to bake and a pinch of salt.
  2. Once the mixture is ready, divide into several containers, add a few drops of food colouring in each bowl, stir and prepare the pancakes
  3. Serve and enjoy!

Last year, TheJournal.ie created a poll asking Dubliners if they would cook a pancake for Pancake Tuesday?

25% of Dubliners answered Yes, the more toppings the better, while 13% said they do not like Pancakes or Pancake Tuesday. The majority of the participants (40%) said that would have a pancake but just with lemon juice and syrup and 20% affirmed someone else would be doing the cooking! Do you think those numbers have changed this year?
