Open House Dublin

The Open House event is run by the Irish Architecture Foundation in collaboration with the Peter McVerry Trust. This years event run from the 14th – 16th of October and features buildings that have altered the view of Dublin city over time.

Ever wondered what it’s like to live like the President? Here’s the chance to visit Áras an Uachtaráin! Maybe you’ve fancied seeing the inside of a Georgian Townhouse, or understand the design behind Busáras? Well, the Open House event is being run all over Dublin city, allowing the public access to houses, government buildings and commercial buildings. There are also events, talks and exhibitions being run in several locations. Tours by bus and boat are also a great way to see the buildings in Dublin, and cycling tours of Phoenix Park allow you to explore the Phoenix Park Tunnel.

Kids are invited to a host of events for “Open House Juniors”. Including workshops and tours, this encourages children of all ages to engage and understand what goes into the engineering and designing of buildings and bridges. Children will get the opportunity to draw in the National Library, create a Tower house in the National Museum of Ireland or take tours around People’s Park or Trinity College for some archi-exploration

The Peter McVerry Trust is participating this year to raise awareness for World Homeless Day. The charity works to aids the homeless, and the housing supply. Ireland is seeing the highest numbers of homelessness since the start of the records. There is the opportunity to support the Trust at some of the properties, or by texting to donate, with the funds providing meals for the homeless. All of the events and tours for Open House Dublin are free – however some events need to be booked in advance, and some tours are only available on a lottery system as they can only take a limited number of visitors. Some events are on a first come, first served basis, so make sure to turn up early to events!
