Cruinniú na Cásca at the National Library this Easter Monday

The National Library of Ireland provides Cruinniú na Cásca talks, which is a public event to promote Irish culture and heritage. The event takes place on 17th April between 11am and 5.30pm.On this day, The National Library gives you free access to exhibitions. Enjoy  your time in a reading room and take part in talks.

The first talk starts at 11am called Musical Gems from the Archives: Talks from RTÉ and the Irish Traditional Music Archive. During this session, Irish traditional music will be explored. It will be an unforgettable journey through different Irish musical regions.

At 12.30 will be a talk called Ireland’s Story in Images from the National Library. Joanne Carroll, the archivist of the Liam O’Leary collection will discuss films and photographs of Rex Ingram.

The next talk kicks off at 2.30 pm called Voices from the National Folklore Collection. The lecture will be given by Críostóir Mac Cárthaigh, who will give you information about “Supernatural Dublin”. Anna Bale will provide you with information about children’s street games and city sounds. The lecture is called “ Singing in the Rain”. Finally, Jonny Dillon, who will be talking about Easter Celebration in Irish Folk Traditions.

The last talk starts at 4.30 pm and will be about Irish literature. The lecture is divided into three sections. The first one is entitled “From Yeats to Heaney”, where Katherine McSharry (Head of NLI Outreach) will take you on a journey of 140 years of Irish literature. The next part, which is called “ The voice from the Archive”, is given by Jane Burns (Research Officer, RCSI School of Nursing), who will give you comprehensive information about wartime and the diary of Mary Martin. The last lecture is about Irish writing, which is given by Maria Ryan and is called “Byte- Sized”.
