The Silk Road International Film Festival is an annual celebration of world cinema, introducing both emerging talent and established directors to a wider audience. The event is quickly becoming a renowned film festival both in Ireland and internationally, and the ‘Silk Road Panorama’ features films from the route of the historical Silk Road, with selections from Asian, Arab, Middle Eastern, African, Mediterranean, and European cinema.

The United Nations, in association with Irish Aid, host a screening of ‘Under the Wire’ in Cineworld on Parnell Street. Directed by Chris Martin, the film tells the story of war-correspondent Marie Colvin and photographer Paul Conroy and their time spent in Homs, a city in Syria under siege by the Syrian Army. Based on Conroy’s book of the same name, the film is a gripping account of the triumph of the human spirit in the face of overwhelming adversity.
The screening will be followed by a discussion with the film’s director and a reception.
