Facing Fortress Europe with Seán Binder and Caoimhe Butterly

Join in for a discussion on the ever-increasing securitisation of European borders and the criminalisation of people seeking refuge and those working with them. You’ll hear from Caoimhe Butterly and Seán Binder.

Seán is a former Trinity student who spent 10 and a half months working in Greece as a Search and Rescue Coordinator with Emergency Response Centre International. He was arrested on charges of human trafficking in Lesvos in 2018, with Syrian human rights worker Sara Mardini, 23. He will speak about his experience of volunteering in Greece and facing criminalisation for his work.

Caoimhe is an educator, documentary maker, trainee psychotherapist, and volunteer. She spent 15 years working with refugee communities, community health workers and human rights defenders in Latin America and the Middle East.
