2. Yvette Monahan: The Thousand Year Old Boy
Yvette Monahan is one of the bright lights of Irish fine art photography, and a co-founder of one of Ireland’s foremost collaborative working studios, South Studios.
Monahan’s most recent body of work, The Thousand Year Old Boy, stemmed from a story that lay West from Dublin, in the Burren, Co Clare. Cavers discovered some archaeological remains from the skeleton of a Bronze Age child. They extracted his DNA, which was tested against 150 children in the local school, where they found one complete match… a child who lived less than a mile from the cave in which the remains were found.
Obsessed with myth and landscape, Monahan sank into this project, considering the legacy of this child, the ancestry of the living student, and the sense of place that was inherent in this tale.
Enjoy the work of one of Ireland’s most brilliant and thoughtful young photographers at the Library Project.
