Abbey Theatre Presents Ulysses
One of the most important romances of all the time will be presented as a play at The Abbey Theatre in October. Ulysses, by James Joyce, it was adapted by the Irish novelist Dermot Bolger and will take place on the stages tomorrow (02/10/2017) untill October 28th.
On The Abbey’s website, Bolger says that the audience that he is trying to reach are those people who always wanted to read the book but felt daunted. “They may be surprised to find that it remains a book about themselves and people they know”, says Bolger. The novelist doesn’t hope that the spectators leave the theatre knowing everything about Joyce, but he expects that them feel involved by the human drama.
Leopold Bloom’s odyssey will be presented to the audience as never imagined before, with live music, puppets, dancing, clowning, bowler hats and kazoos. Accordig to The Abbey Theatre, that is an absurd, brilliant and oodles of fun production, and a superbly theatrical homage to Joyce’s chronicle of Dublin.
