Child Safety Standards Policy

1. Purpose

This policy outlines the standards, procedures, and measures that our app employs to ensure the safety and protection of children, with a specific focus on preventing child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE). We are committed to providing a safe, secure, and compliant environment for all users, particularly children, in line with Irish laws, EU regulations, and global best practices.

This policy applies to all users of the app, including but not limited to children, parents, guardians, content creators, and administrators. It covers all aspects of the app’s functionality, content, and interactions, both online and offline, that may involve or affect children within Ireland and the wider EU.


3. Commitment to Child Safety

Our app is designed to be a safe environment for children to interact, explore, and engage with content. We uphold a zero-tolerance policy towards child sexual abuse material (CSAM) and any form of child exploitation. We are committed to:

  • Preventing Child Exploitation: Taking all reasonable steps to prevent any form of child sexual abuse or exploitation on our platform.
  • Responding to Incidents: Responding swiftly and decisively to any reported incidents of child exploitation or abuse.
  • Cooperation with Authorities: Fully cooperating with law enforcement agencies, regulatory bodies, and child protection agencies in Ireland and the EU in the event of a suspected child protection violation.

4. Definition of CSAE and CSAM

  • Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation (CSAE): CSAE refers to any content or behavior that sexually exploits, abuses, or endangers children. This includes, but is not limited to, grooming, sextortion, trafficking of children for sexual purposes, or sharing child sexual abuse material (CSAM).
  • Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM): CSAM refers to any visual or textual content that depicts or promotes the sexual abuse or exploitation of children.

5. Prevention Measures

Our app implements the following preventive measures to ensure the safety of children:

  • Age Verification: We utilize age verification processes, including input fields for birthdays, and advanced methods to ensure users are accurately representing their ages in compliance with Irish and EU regulations.
  • Content Moderation: Automated and manual content moderation processes are in place to detect, prevent, and remove harmful or inappropriate content, including CSAM. 
  • Restricted Content: Any content that promotes or involves child exploitation, pornography, or abuse is strictly prohibited. We will actively block, remove, and report any such content to the relevant Irish authorities and the EU-based European Cybercrime Centre (EC3).
  • Prohibited Behaviour: The app has strict guidelines against grooming, solicitation, or predatory behavior. Any user attempting to initiate inappropriate conversations or actions will be promptly banned and reported.
  • Third-Party Content: We hold all third-party content providers and partners to the same child safety standards. Any third-party content found to violate our policies will be immediately removed, and the provider will be banned from our platform.

6. Reporting and Response Protocol

In the event of suspected child sexual abuse or exploitation, the following protocol will be followed:

  • In-App Reporting Mechanism: Users, parents, or guardians can report suspected abuse or exploitation easily via an accessible reporting mechanism available within the app. The report form is user-friendly, available 24/7, and accessible to users with disabilities.
  • Immediate Action: Upon receiving a report, our security team will assess the content and context to determine whether it violates our safety standards. If a violation is confirmed, appropriate action will be taken immediately, including removing the offending content and suspending or banning the user.
  • Collaboration with Irish Law Enforcement: In cases where abuse or exploitation is confirmed, we will work directly with the Gardaí (Irish Police) and other relevant Irish law enforcement agencies to ensure the safety of the child and to facilitate prosecution.
  • Cooperation with EU Authorities: We will collaborate with the European Commission, Europol, and the European Cybercrime Centre (EC3) in cases involving cross-border exploitation or abuse, ensuring that cases are dealt with efficiently and in compliance with EU laws.
  • Follow-up: We will maintain clear communication with the reporting party and the relevant authorities to ensure a thorough investigation and follow-up on all cases of abuse or exploitation.

8. Privacy and Data Protection

To safeguard the privacy and rights of children, the following measures are in place:

  • Data Collection: We do not collect or process personal information about children under the age of 13 without obtaining parental consent, in compliance with Irish Data Protection Laws and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
  • Privacy by Design: We adhere to the principle of “Privacy by Design,” ensuring that any data we collect is protected using robust encryption methods and stored securely in compliance with GDPR and Ireland’s Data Protection Acts.
  • Anonymization: We anonymize any personal information to the greatest extent possible, reducing the potential risks in the event of a data breach.
  • Data Retention: We retain all data related to CSAE reports for a minimum of 90 days to assist law enforcement investigations. This data is stored securely and shared only with authorized authorities.

  • The Irish Criminal Law (Sexual Offences) Act 2017, which strengthens protections against child exploitation.
  • The EU Digital Services Act and EU Digital Markets Act, as well as any future European child protection regulations.
