Fashion Inspiration And Where To Find It
Many people today will come up against the unshakable realisation that current fashion isn’t to their taste. “There’s nothing in the shops that I like” is an all too familiar sentiment, and can be demoralising if you have a particular event that you need to dress for. Maybe there’s nothing in your colour (listen, black is always in fashion). Or you come up against the dreaded task of finding a dress for a wedding/ graduation/ birthday party. Maybe you want a new Winter wardrobe. Maybe you deserve a new piece to spruce up your look. Well, I’m going to endeavor to point you in the right direction.
Dublin is home to far many H&Ms but also a great few independent shops where you’re bound to find a solution to get you out of your fashion rut.
One of my go to’s is Folkster. Located on 9 Eustace Street, Temple Bar, they offer an amazing selection of outfits, dresses, accessories, shoes and homeware. They source some of their stock from America, so you can expect something different and delightful. They can also be found in Kilkenny on 27 Patrick Street across from the Pembroke Hotel. Here you’ll also find the Folkster Bridal store and the Vintage Kilo store. They also host Vintage Kilo sales in Dublin, so follow them on Facebook and keep an eye out!

Nine Crows are newer to the fashion scene, but are proving pretty popular. They have relocated from their store on the quays to Temple Lane St (near the button factory). They stock vintage, reworked vintage and own-brand clothing. Keep an eye on their Instagram for inspiration and a peak at what’s just come into store (so you can be the first to get it!). They have a great range of men’s and women’s clothes on their website, which can be found here. They are hosting a Repeal pop up shop on the 10th of November at 6pm where you can get all your Repeal the 8th Amendment jumpers, tees and more .
A familiar site to all who wander the streets of Temple Bar, Lucy’s lounge is a treasure trove of unique, handmade, inspirational items. A perfect place to scope out an unusual gift, the front of the store holds all sorts of accessories. Downstairs you’ll find a magical place selling vintage men’s and women’s and upcycled vintage. They also have an shop on the Asos marketplace!
With the latest store having opened on Wicklow St, Siopaella is the largest designer exchange store in Ireland. Their other three stores are:
8 Cecilia St. (designer)
25A Temple Lane Sth (vintage)
8A Crow St. (siopaedit collection)
You’ll find designer in their store on Wicklow St also. They sell handbags, clothes and accessories but also buy your unwanted designer goods, but currently they are only looking for handbags. It’s definitely worth a look if you’ve ever dreamed of owning designer, so you can realistically set yourself goal and start saving your pennies.
If you feel you’ve lost your fashion panache, you can always pop into Brown Thomas and book a personal shopper. They offer this complimentary service which you can book here. Trust them to find you the perfect Christmas party dress. For Men’s fashion, check out their style edit.
