A Thought about Migration

According with the IOM (International Organisation for Migration), the definition of Migrant is:

” (…) IOM defines a migrant as any person who is moving or has moved across an international border or within a State away from his/her habitual place of residence, regardless of (1) the person’s legal status; (2) whether the movement is voluntary or involuntary; (3) what the causes for the movement are; or (4) what the length of the stay is.”

Our contemporary world has, approximately, 7.500.000.000 people. Each one of us has our own reality, based in our family, social status, city, country and society. Our personality and way of seeing the world can vary accordingly with each one of these topics.

Another fact about modern society is that it was developed with a big mix of ethnicities. Nowadays, we can see formed countries with own laws and cultural features, yet each one of them has had some sort of miscegenation during human history.

Brazil is the major example of the world’s  miscegenation, formed by cultures from all around the world. Its history is made by migration due to huge crises and wars during the 19th and 20th centuries. That is one of the many places around the world that has in its history, blood from different ethnicities.

Migration is part of World history, it is undeniable. The development of technology brought many benefits to mankind, with the evolution of the production of goods and the uncountable amount of information. These factors give us the sensation of an accelerated reality, as if we did not have time for anything, anymore.

This is the bad side of globalization. Capitalism pressure makes us lose our subjectivity, sensibility, life quality and, especially, our humanity.  In a world with so many people, each one with their own reality, followed by its culture and values, should have space for all people to manifest their ideas freely and to live wherever they want to. People and states that are against migration, do it based on protection of their culture and economy. In fact, migration does help to increase the economy of a country.

To know another`s reality, culture and values is to expand our perspective about everything. There is a whole new world to get to know by exploring different ways of life. Welcome to Babylon Project, an inclusionary new proposal that will talk about all the cultures, and at the same time, reinforce immigrant community by giving a new meaning for the word migration, disseminating information about it without prejudices.
