European: A journey through European culture
Are you interested in culture? What if I told you that there is a single place from where to access almost any European cultural item you can think of? That place is called Europeana, and it is the biggest multi-lingual online collection of the world, with millions of digitized items from European museums, libraries, archives and multi-media collections in 31 different languages.
Some items and topics are world famous, like Isaac Newton’s book about the Laws of Motion, the drawings of Leonardo da Vinci, Johannes Vermeer’s painting of the Girl With A Pearl Earring or objects about the Berlin Wall. As they explain in their website, “others are hidden treasures, waiting for you to discover them”.
The initiative is financed by the European Comission, and more than 2,000 institutions across Europe have contributed to it. These range from major international names like the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, the British Library and the Louvre to regional archives and local museums from every member of the European Union. Browse through them, save your search, add tags and even download anything you want! Europe’s cultural heritage is in your hands.
