Contemporary visits the traditional
If you have a passion for History and Stories, you should visit Dublin Castle. Located at the heart of Dublin City, it was originally built in the 13th century, but after a fire in 1684, the castle was rebuilt.
Dublin Castle which hosted Queen Elizabeth II during her visit to Dublin in 2011, now hosts the work of important names of Irish and international design. “ Playing with the Traditional” is a series of installations which encompass furniture, sculpture, tableware clothing and accessories including jewellery.
The pieces on exhibit have a traditional design and quality craftsmanship but with a twist which makes it contemporary. Many of the objects are for sale, attached to the exhibition is also a shop featuring the designers’ work.
“ Playing with the Traditional” is in four Georgian Rooms adjacent to the State Apartments until the 6th of September and can be visited from Monday to Saturday 10am-5pm and Sunday 12-4pm.
