10 Thrilling Theatre Shows Coming to Ireland in 2022

Les Miserablés
One of the most successful musicals of all time, the iconic Les Miserablés is based on the novel of the same name by Victor Hugo. Set in France during the early 19th century, Les Miserablés follows the intertwining fates of a cast of characters that ranges from aristocrats to escaped convicts.The musical is particularly driven by the connection forged between the honourable and determined Jean Valjean, and the obsessive police inspector, Javert. Their history with one another comes to a dramatic head as they are entangled in the violence of the June Rebellion of 1832. The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe
An adaption of the beloved children’s classic by C.S Lewis, The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe takes to the Dublin stage from the 15th to the 19th of March with it’s touring cast after being critically acclaimed in the United Kingdom. Audience members will join the Pevensie children, Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy, on an unforgettable adventure. When the four siblings escape the bombs of the London blitz for a quiet English manor house they get a lot more than they bargained for after Lucy discovers an entrance to the dangerous and magical land of Narnia. Chicago
The longest running American musical on Broadway, Chicago is a raunchy spectacle that will leave you dazzled. Set during the jazz era in the city of Chicago, this musical takes a humorous look at the idea of the sensational “celebrity criminal”, and the culture surrounding them. Follow the story of scandalous showgirl Roxie Hart and the women of Cook’s County Jail as the vie for the grisly and glamorous honour of becoming the media’s murderer of the week. The Addams Family
They’re creepy and they’re kooky, and they’re coming to Ireland for a run between the 5th and 9th of April. The Addams Family sees Wednesday Addams face off against one of the scariest experiences out there: meeting your fiancées parents! She and her boyfriend Lucas must successfully manage a whole weekend with both their families. Will the differences between the gothic Addams clan and the perky Bienekes prove too much? Or will young love prevail? Other antics include a graveyard flash mob and a madman in love with the moon. Get your tickets here.
Sister Act
Nightclub singer Deloris Van Cartier has her world turned upside down after she accidentally becomes a witness to a murder. Placed in a witness protection programme, this diva ends up worlds away from her everyday life in the convent of The Holy Orders of the Little Sisters of Our Mother of Perpetual Faith. Despite the initial culture-clash, however, Deloris manages to put her musical talents to work in an attempt to revive the local church choir. This hilarious romp will be playing in Dublin from the 10th to the 22nd of May, with tickets available to purchase here.
Bring it On
With music by Lin-Manuel Miranda, Bring It On is a perky musical about cheerleading based on the 2000 film of the same name. When Campbell Davies is named captain of the Truman High School cheer squad, it’s as though all her dreams have come true. Reality comes crashing in when she finds out she’s about to be moved to an inner-city school with no squad of their own. Suspecting sabotage from a jealous wannabe, Campbell will have to contend with a fresh set of queen bees, earn a position in her new school, and get together a new cheerleading team to crush her old friends at the all important Nationals. Waitress
This uplifting musical favourite will be performing in Dublin from the 7th to the 18th of June. Based on the 2007 comedy film of the same name, Waitress introduces us to Jenna, a talented pie-baker, as she copes with the disappointments of her dead-end waitressing job, her abusive marriage, and an unwanted pregnancy. School of Rock
When Dewey Finn, a down and out rock singer and guitarist, poses as a substitute teacher in a posh prep school, he discovers that his new students have an incredible affinity for music. Dewey boosts the confidence of his class of 5th graders, and together they embark on a scheme to win a local Battle of the Bands competition. Based on the 2003 film starring Jack Black and with music by Andrew Lloyd-Webber, School of Rock is a family friendly hit that will bring the house down in Dublin from the 21st of June to the 2nd of July. South Pacific
This enduringly popular Roger & Hammerstein musical will be bringing the magic of the South Pacific to Ireland with its run between the 13th and 17th of September. Set in the Pacific theatre during World War II, South Pacific explores love and race with its tale of a US nurse, Nellie, working on a remote island where American troops are stationed to monitor Japanese forces. Nellie falls in love with a French plantation owner, Emille, but struggles when she discovers he has two mixed-race children. Meanwhile US Marine Cable is having similar difficulties reconciling his love for local girl, Liat, and his prejudiced upbringing. Beauty and the Beast
This official Disney-licensed stage show of one of their most acclaimed films ever will bring its magic to stage next year from the 24th of November to the 17th of December. Be enchanted once more by the tale of the beautiful bookworm Belle, who is abruptly pulled out of her sleepy country life when her father angers a beast under a terrible curse. Featuring the songs you know and love from the film, alongside some new original numbers. Beauty and the Beast will leave you spellbound with its take on a fable about true love and inner worth.
