Ireland has found a town with the most romantic people
An analysis has revealed in which towns of Ireland the most romantic people reside.
Although Irish people are maybe not considered the most romantic nation, Ireland has discovered a town where the highest number of Cupids live.
The e-commerce platform Picodi put together the 22 largest Irish cities and ranked them on the basis of the frequency of Google searches related to love and Valentine’s Day.
The most romantic places in Ireland include Athlone, Waterford, and Tralee.
What sights to see in the top 3 towns?
ATHLONE lies in the heart of Ireland, on the River Shannon. A small town of about 20,000 is home not only to a castle but also the oldest pub in Europe, Sean’s Bar. Irish poet Aubrey Thomas de Vere mentions the town in The Ballad of Athlone.
“Does any man dream that a Gael can fear?
Of a thousand deeds let him learn but one!
The Shannon swept onwards broad and clear,
Between the leaguers and broad Athlone”

TRALEE lies in the south-west of Ireland. What can visitors find here? Ireland’s largest functioning windmill – Blennerville Windmill. Apart from that, the Rose of Tralee festival is held here each August. The inspiration comes from a ballad of the eponymous name, which recounts a story about beautiful Mary. Visitors can find Mary’s statue in the city’s Rose Garden.
WATERFORD is the oldest town, located in the south of Ireland. It became famous for Waterford Crystal, which had manufactured crystal in the city from the 18th century before the firm moved elsewhere. Oh! Did you know that Ryanair’s first flight took off from here? The plane landed at Gatwick Airport in 1985. And visitors can have a pint of beer in the oldest public building, which is a pub named T&H Doolan’s.
Where is Dublin on the list?
At the other end of the ranking of the most romantic towns in Ireland, Swords, Ennis, and Bray, came in the bottom places. Ireland’s capital ended up in the second half of the list.
However, the amount of these romance-related searches increases ahead of Valentine’s Day each year.
The research, analysing Google archived data, was carried out between January and February 2019.
