Dublin Pride 2016

By admin / March 30, 2016

Organisers of this year’s LGBTQ Pride festival have announced the 2016 theme.

REBEL REBEL has been chosen as the 2016 theme which will see thousands of revellers flock to the capital to celebrate Dublin’s diverse lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) community. The theme gives a nod to Ireland’s 1916 Centenary rebels, as well as glam rock icon David Bowie, who revolutionised attitudes towards sexuality in his six-decade career before he passed away in February of this year. The poster features Constance Markievicz and Patrick Pearse sporting Bowie’s iconic make-up.

Jed Dowling, Festival Director for Dublin LGBTQ Pride, said: “As we reflect on years gone by in Dublin and Ireland, we recognise many stories, movements, occasions and people, that have allowed us to reach the level of freedom that our LGBTQ community has today.  “REBEL REBEL allows us to look back and reflect upon what it means to be Irish and LGBTQ.  We have a lot to celebrate and we want to see everyone’s rebellious side this June!”.

Last year’s Pride brought colour to the capital with rainbow flags and lively celebrations following the resounding referendum victory for gay marriage rights campaigners. A record-breaking 60,000 people took part.

2016’s festival will take place between June 22 and 26.
