Kabul Military Hospital Attacked by ISIS
At least 30 people were killed and about 50 people wounded in an attack on a Kabul military hospital. Isis fighters entered the hospital in the capital of Afghanistan disguised as doctors after detonating a bomb and opened fire on patients and hospital staff. People were reported to be hiding on outside window ledges on the upper floor. The four attackers were killed by commandos landing on the roof after several hours of fighting. President Ashraf Ghani said that attacking a hospital, an immune building in all religions, was infringing human values, and an attack on the whole of Afghanistan.
The attack was claimed by the Islamic State.
This attack is only one in a series of attacks committed by the IS. Last month, Kabul’s Supreme Court was hit by a suicide attack at Kabul’s Supreme Court that killed 22 people. Although having been active in Afghanistan since 2014, the Islamic State is not as present as the Taliban and endangers the Afghan state less than the Taliban do. Just a week ago, the Taliban killed 16 people in suicide attacks.
